17 JUNE 1956 – 2026
70TH ANNIVERSARY OF
THE PRIESTLY ORDINATION OF
MONSIGNOR BASIL O’SULLIVAN
Our Monsignor Basil, the Lord’s faithful servant, prayed as usual on the memorable 70th anniversary day of his ordination at Wednesday June 17’s morning Mass with parishioners of Our Lady’s and of Dunblane’s Holy Family Church.
Only two days later, an official Platinum Jubilee Mass brought together bishops, clergy, parishioners, family and friends on June 19 to honour a ministry that has spanned seven decades and touched countless lives throughout the Diocese of Dunkeld and beyond.

Monsignor was surprised and honoured to receive from our Bishop Andrew, a letter sent by Pope Leo in recognition of the anniversary. CLICK below to read the translation.

Specially commissioned, it was created by Shona McInnes, the artist who also completed the stained glass windows in Our Lady’s Church.
Several small pieces of glass from the original windows were incorporated in the design, recognising Monsignor Basil’s guiding light and dedication towards the beautiful upgrade of the chapel that honours Our Lady.
Scotland’s First Minister, John Swinney, also sent a personal note of congratulation on this special anniversary.

Monsignor Basil O’Sullivan, parish priest of Our Lady’s for over 30 years, completed a major programme of work to enhance the little chapel with stained glass windows themed on key aspects of the faith, church and prayer life. They allow the natural light of the sun to shine through in “proclamation of the wonderful works of God”.

A booklet detailing information about artist Shona McInnes and interpretations of the set of windows can be found here. It was compiled by David Homewood, a member of the parish, and includes the background of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour, the icon that honours Our Lady and is commemorated in our chapel.
