Palm Sunday

March 24

Parish Notices

Mass on Wednesday and Sunday at 10am.

Confessions after Mass on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Sunday Devotions at 5pm.

Catechumens prepare to receive the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Communion in order to join the Church at the Easter Vigil. These are the so-called Sacraments of Initiation (i.e., initiation into the church).

People who have already received these Sacraments, i.e., so-called Cradle Catholics, are invited to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) to renew the graces of these sacraments, renew their Baptismal vows at Easter, and thereafter receive Easter Holy Communion.

The activities of Lent, prayer, fasting and alms-giving/acts of mercy, have as their purpose a more fervent renewal of our Baptismal Vows at Easter and reception of Holy Communion.

Please remember our sick and housebound: Monica Kidd; Eoin French; Patrick Sheridan; Emma Davis; John Manser; Mary Campbell; Paul Monaghan.

Recently deceased: Nuala Corcoran; anniversaries occurring at this time; former parishioners and friends of Our Lady’s.

Mass of Easter Morning: Renewal of Baptismal Vows and Easter Communion: 10am.

No Devotions this evening.

Little things to notice during the Sacred Triduum.

There is the usual greeting at the start of Mass on Holy Thursday, bells are rung at the Gloria and are silent until we sing the Gloria at the Vigil Mass on Saturday. After the singing of the Gloria on Thursday, the organ is only used to sustain the singing. We exit the Church on Holy Thursday in silence—no dismissal. No greeting on Good Friday at the Solemn Commemoration, and no dismissal at the end. Leave in silence. No greeting on Holy Saturday. It is as though we are at Mass from Holy Thursday until the Vigil. We exit the Saturday Vigil with the Double Alleluia ringing in our ears.

If you have Holy Water in the house, it should be poured back into the earth from where it came, not down the sink. Bottles can be replenished with the newly-blessed Easter water after the Vigil. The Bishop will bless the Holy Oils at the Mass of Chrism in the Cathedral on Wednesday, March 27. The old oils blessed the previous year have to be burnt. Our stocks are replenished with the freshly blessed oils which will be used in the course of the coming year.

No Gospel Notes this week – the Gospel reading is too long.
